Dynamic Programming
Dynamic programming is a small band on the MongoDB loop, but it is a reliable one, so it earns a short focused page rather than a skip. Across candidate reports it sits well behind the two lead families, the arrays-and-hashing core and the data-structure design work, but it turns up often enough that you want the recurrences ready. The problems are mostly canonical mediums with a couple of harder outliers. Expect something like a string-segmentation reachability problem, a grid recurrence for the largest square of ones, and an egg-drop optimization that a few hiring managers still reach for.
What separates DP from the rest of the coding section is that it stays in its textbook form. The other rounds borrow their texture from MongoDB's own internals. A versioned key-value store is really the point-in-time read a database serves, so the design round hands you one. A cache that has to stay correct under concurrent readers and writers is really document-level locking inside the storage engine, so the concurrency round hands you that. Dynamic programming has no matching structure in the product, so when it appears, it appears plain, and the whole task is the recurrence.
