The Netflix Culture Interview: Values Round Prep
The Netflix culture interview is a structured conversation about the company's culture memo. That public document lays out how Netflix expects people to work: freedom and responsibility, radical candor, the Keeper Test, the "Dream Team, not a family." It is one of the most heavily weighted rounds in the loop. Interviewers expect you to have read the memo, to discuss it in your own words, and to push back where you genuinely disagree. Skip it and you fail the round.
That round carries roughly 40 to 50 percent of the Netflix loop, and the signal it throws can override a strong technical showing. The decision is manager-led and effectively wants everyone aligned, so one confident culture no-hire usually ends it. That weight is why candidates who solve the mediums and land the system design round can still come up short here. Reading the company well is the actual work of this round.
Here the culture document is the syllabus. The interview is often a structured conversation about the memo and how your own history lines up against it. Candidates describe an extra thirty to forty-five minutes per culture interview, just from how deep the probing goes. You are expected to have read it, to talk about it in your own words, and to push back where you disagree. The guidance is blunt: skip the memo and you fail the round.
