Payments-Domain Coding & OOD
The most-repeated line about Ripple's phone screen is that the coding problem arrives dressed as a blockchain "sell order," and candidates who studied consensus algorithms freeze on it. They freeze because they are looking for something exotic. There is nothing exotic. Strip the crypto vocabulary off and what is left is an easy-to-medium arithmetic problem: fill an order against a book, run a balance over a stream of transfers, tally a cost. The domain flavor is a coat of paint over a standard interview question, and the first skill this round rewards is seeing the plain problem underneath the fintech words.
This lesson drills the three payments-domain shapes candidates report: a Premium question from the phone screen, a transaction-settlement stream, and a Premium question, which shows up as an object-oriented design problem. None needs an unusual algorithm. What each one tests is whether you can translate a business rule into precise code, keep your state straight, and handle the boring boundary that decides correctness. Talk through the translation out loud before you type, because the interviewer is grading the reasoning as much as the result.
