Negotiating Your Offer

Alex Chen11 min readUpdated 25 real interview reports

Salesforce trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker CRM. That single fact settles the easiest question about the offer. The equity line is liquid public RSUs priced at the live share price, with no illiquidity discount and no private-valuation guesswork. You can value it the way you value any public-company grant. What is harder, and what decides the negotiation, is which part of the package can move and who controls it. The company pays below the top of the market and is genuinely willing to negotiate. It also runs a slightly slower process, and it almost never goes above its bands. A competing offer here does one job: it drags you to the top of the band, not past it.

So the work is not "extract a FAANG number." Salesforce will not write one. The work is to find the top of each band, then aim your ask at the component that is easiest to approve. That component is not the obvious one. The reason is structural.
