The HackerRank Online Assessment
Before you speak to a single engineer at SAP, there is usually a gate to clear on your own. It runs on HackerRank, or occasionally on SAP's internal platform, and it is where most campus and early-career candidates are cut. What surprises people is the shape. Forget a two-hour algorithm grind. It is roughly half multiple-choice questions on language fundamentals and CS core subjects, and half coding. The coding half is easy to medium rather than a wall of hards. The candidates who fall here almost never fall on the algorithms. They fall on the MCQs nobody bothered to study, or on a story-wrapped problem whose plain-English spec hid a greedy or a binary search.
The bar is concrete. On campus loops the funnel is steep: a cohort of roughly two hundred can narrow to about thirty. The reported rule is blunt. Both coders must pass all test cases, and the MCQ score must be eight or better. So the MCQs are not a warm-up you can coast through. They carry real weight, and they reward a kind of prep that pure algorithm grinding skips entirely.
