Chewy Operating Principles Interview Questions
Chewy scores your behavioral round against seven named Operating Principles, and its own careers site tells you to answer in STAR. That combination is unusually explicit, and it hands you the whole rubric before you walk in. The interviewer is not fishing for a vibe. They are listening for evidence that you put customers first, act as an owner, and deliver results, then writing your story up against the principle they were assigned. Learn the seven, prepare a story for each, and the round stops being a guessing game.
Chewy wants builders who did the work. The strongest answers here sound like "we shipped the reorder flow in two weeks and saw a 12% lift in repeat purchases," not "we followed an agile process and collaborated cross-functionally." Every principle rewards the same instinct: you saw something, you owned it, you moved, and you can name what changed. Vague process language is the fastest way to read as someone who watched work happen rather than someone who did it.
STAR runs Situation, Task, Action, Result. Chewy names it directly on its interviewing page, so use it plainly: two sentences of setup, then most of your clock on what you did and what it produced. Each group below names the principle it scores and adds a short "what it probes" line, the signal underneath the question. Practice every answer out loud at roughly two minutes.
