Why Jump & Culture Fit
Two things frame the Jump behavioral round before any question lands. First, it is a conversation, usually with a working engineer or trader and often a manager or director near the end of the day. It reads for whether you would fit a secretive, futures-first HFT firm built around small, autonomous pods, and it runs through the whole loop rather than sitting in one tidy round. Second, Jump publishes no numbered "values" or "principles" page. There is no Jump equivalent of Amazon's Leadership Principles to map stories onto. So fit is read against the culture that candidates and the firm consistently describe. There is no official list. An answer that pretends otherwise is guessing at a rubric that does not exist.
That absence is the trap. Without a printed list to study, candidates default to generic "I want to work at a top prop firm" answers, and at a firm this distinct, generic reads as a blank. Jump was founded in Chicago in 1999 by Bill DiSomma and Paul Gurinas, two former CME floor traders. That heritage still shapes it. The firm is futures-first, obsessively low-latency, and famously quiet. It is organized into isolated teams with early autonomy and a deliberately blurred line between researcher and developer. The behavioral round is checking whether you understand that specific firm and would thrive inside it. Two things carry most of the weight: a real answer to why Jump, and the discretion the firm expects you to already show in the room.
