JavaScript for ServiceNow
ServiceNow builds the Now Platform as a full-stack product, and the R&D software-engineer role is full-stack with it. The core runs on Java, the UI runs on JavaScript, and a single engineer is expected to move across both. That is why a JavaScript layer bolts onto almost every coding loop here, even for a role that reads as backend. You solve a Java algorithm, then the interviewer pivots: what does this snippet log, why is this variable undefined, walk me through the event loop.
This lesson has two halves, because the round does. The first is the conceptual rapid-fire that shows up across R&D and frontend loops alike: closures, this, hoisting, promises, the event loop, and the virtual DOM. The second is the machine-coding track, a full round for UI and applications-engineer candidates. Rebuild a polyfill, deep-flatten a mixed structure and group it by type, write a Premium question. Read the concepts first so the builds have somewhere to land, then work all three problems in the editor.
The JavaScript round is a knowledge check wearing a coding problem. The interviewer wants to hear the mechanism out loud: which queue a callback lands in, where this is bound, why a closure captured the value it did.
