Negotiating Your Zscaler Offer

Alex Chen11 min readUpdated 118 real interview reports

A Zscaler offer has one fact working in your favor that many startup offers can't claim. The equity is already liquid. Zscaler has traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker ZS since its 2018 IPO. The stock in your letter is publicly listed, priced on an open market, and sellable when it vests. You don't wait for a tender or puzzle over an internal valuation nobody can explain. When a ZS grant vests, you own shares you can look up and sell. That removes the biggest question mark hanging over most private, pre-IPO offers, and it changes what you're being handed.

That advantage comes with a risk, and an honest reading holds both. ZS is a volatile ticker. It has swung across a wide band and fallen sharply in market downturns, at times losing more than half its value in a single stretch. Candidates who hold the stock name this as a real consideration. Liquid doesn't mean stable. A private grant hides its uncertainty inside a valuation you can't see. A public grant shows you the uncertainty every trading day, and the swing between grant and vest is now yours. This lesson walks the pay shape rung by rung across the two regions Zscaler hires into. It explains liquid ZS equity and why it's granted in US dollars even in India. Then it names the levers that move.
